A proud history
Glenroy Housing, a family owned business has been designing, manufacturing and constructing houses throughout New Zealand for over 50 years.
The founders of Glenroy started the company with a focus on innovation and developed our modular pre-engineered building system enabling an efficient building technique that results in warm, light and comfortable living. What Glenroy focused on over 40 years ago is now commonly termed Modular Construction using Structural Infill Panels, with a focus on passive design, and sustainable building.
The Company Beginnings
Our Company beginnings and love of sustainable NZ timber originated with the family sawmill in Raetihi in the 1920s.
Innovation part of our DNA
With innovation part of the Glenroy DNA, it was a natural progression that led to the development of Glenroy Housing and the construction New Zealands first prefabricated houses. These houses also included features such as pre-insulated panels and concrete slab flooring with infloor heating. Both concepts were thought of as quite unusual and strange for the times.
First Advertising & Market Expansion
The ability of our prefabricated house components to be easily shipped via container allowed for expansion into the Pacific Islands. Early marketing efforts were straightforward and to the point.
New Factory Premises
It was an exciting day the company expanded into new premises and a new factory in June 1973.
Transportable Prefabricated Houses for the Pacific
In 1993 after a cyclone in the Cook Islands Glenroy sent transportable houses to assist with the rebuild. Two houses were able to be fitted into a standard shipping container.
The development of the Glenroy Batten Clad system ensured a strong and flexible exterior for a cyclone prone region.
Awards followed
A history of winning awards in the Registered Master Builders House of the Year competition has continued to the present.

New Beginnings
In early 2023 Glenroy moved to a more streamlined and cost effective model of operation, helping reduce complexity and continue to focus on providing excellent building processes and outcomes for our clients.
